Royals Whip the Whippets

By: Hunter Miller

On Tuesday, December 17, the Lady Royals took on the Shelby Whippets. Early in the first quarter, the Royals shot themselves to a 9-0 lead, which would only be held on to for a short while when Shelby turned up their full court pressure. Wynford struggled with this at first and opened a door for a comeback by the Lady Whippets. The score at the half was 28-23 in favor of the Royals. The Whippets cut the deficit down quickly and played with the Royals for most of the game however; Meghan Harrer drilled back to back threes late in the fourth quarter to give the ladies the cushion they needed. The ladies had to fight through many periods of adversity and were still able to hold strong in the end with a final score of 62-51. The Lady Royals had four players finishing with double figures. Brenna Quinn lead all scorers with 20 points while Meghan Harrer finished with 15, Ellie Richmond with 11, and Beth Delong with 10.

In the junior varsity game, the Royals used an impressive 21 point fourth quarter to defeat the Whippets 41-25. The Lady Royals withstood several Whippet runs and a tough Whippet full court press to come away with the victory. The Lady Royals were led in scoring by sophomore, Mallory Moore, with 15 points and junior, Hannah Kocher, with 11. This brought the Royal’s overall record to an impressive 6-1 overall and 2-0 in league play. The Lady Royals will be looking to continue their winning streaks this Saturday, December 21st against NCC opponent, the Galion Tigers.
