Devils Can’t Weather Royal Storm

The Royals freshman football team had a fantastic game against the Carey Blue Devils on Monday, September 22nd. The game was much closer than the score entailed. The first touchdown was scored on a one yard quarterback sneak by Wyatt Smith. The two point conversion failed. The Blue Devils marched right down the field answering with a touchdown and a two point conversion making the score 8-6, Carey. Wynford and Carey battled back and forth until Robbie Miller broke a long run to the three yard line, and Wyatt Smith punched it in on a quarterback sneak. Robbie Miller ran in the two point conversion making the score 14-8, Royals. In the middle of the second quarter, Carey scored another touchdown tying the score at 14. Later in the second quarter, Jordan Imbody caught a 15 yard touchdown pass in the endzone from Wyatt Smith making the score 20-14. The Devils marched right down the field and scored, converting the two point conversion, taking the lead 22-20. The Royals went three and out and were forced to punt giving the Blue Devils offense the ball on the 50 with about two minutes left in the first half. Carey marched right down the field for a last second chance to score. With time running out in the half, Carey attempted a long pass into the endzone where Jordan Imbody came up with a big interception returning it to the 30 yard line as time expired. The Royals had momentum on their side after the big interception to end the first half. When the Royals got the ball back to start the second half, they put together an impressive drive where Robbie Miller marched in for a 20 yard run. The Royals also converted the two point conversion giving the Royals the lead 28-22. The Royals made a big defensive stop and never looked back. The Royals put together another impressive drive leading to another big touchdown run from Robbie Miller with Zach Houck’s run completing the two point conversion. The Royals defense locked down the Carey triple option offense in the second half giving the Royals a 36-22 win. The freshman record improves to 3-1 for the year. Wynford is back in action on Monday, September 29th at Mohawk.
